S4J DJ PIZZA CATZ Fundraiser
March 2 @ 2:00 pm - 11:30 pm$10
The WACA Catz are hosting a fundraiser for the Sail 4 Justice campaign, as the crew prepares to launch the freedom flotilla from Narrm/Melbourne to Manus this coming May.
But why Sail 4 Justice, you say?
On the journey, Sail 4 Justice will highlight issues faced by original nations in the areas they will visit, including the Indonesian occupation of West Papua and the ongoing genocide of the West Papuan peoples. Australia’s border policing and refugee policies are premised on the notion of Australia’s jurisdiction over this land. However, this country was occupied illegally, under the legal fiction of ‘terra nullius’ – empty land. To this day Australia has no treaty with the original custodians of this land.
For more information, to get involved, or make a donation, check out the website: https://sail4justice.org/
To raise funds and propel the campaign preparation forward, we will be bringing together three essential party ingredients:
——and Catz (that’s you)
Kicking off at 2pm, we will be serving wood fired pizza from the luscious backyard of Brunswick (location to be announced in the coming weeks). To compliment your slice, we will be stirring up a storm of cocktails, and tipping the afternoon off with a robust bake stall.
We will be treating ourselves to some of Narrm’s finest musicians, from acoustic harmonies in the afternoon to pulsing beats in the night, so come for a slice, come for a boogie, and come support the fight to end Australia’s brutal detention regime.
To get you in the mood for this delightful day, we will be giving away free cocktails to the best cat meme hoisted on this event page. The challenge is yours.
We will be asking a $10 donation on the door, but as always, money is no barrier, so no one will be turned away for lack of funds. On the flip side, if you have many funds, feel free to give more! Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander folks, West Papuan folks, and folks from a refugee background enter for free.
This event is taking place in so-called Melbourne, which occupies the land of the Wurundjeri and Boon Wurrung people. We acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded, and the Victorian Government is yet to sign a Treaty.
Big love from the WACA Catz, see you on the dance floor
